The success in transfer of bovine embryos

The sexing of embryos

  Embryo sexing on the farm

  • The sexing related to embryo transfer is capable to increase the number of female born on the farm.

  • Technically, after flushing the embryos, we take samples of a few cells from each embryo by microsurgery with a micro blade.

  • These cells contain the information genetic of the future calf, i.e. the chromosomes.

  • Two of these chromosomes, called X and Y, are sexual. Indeed, cells from female embryos carry two chromosomes X, while those from male embryos carry one chromosome X and one chromosome Y.

  • All chromosomes are formed by a chain of DNA, which is specific and not visible with the naked eye.

   Sample 5 to 10 cells
